Suggest Treatment For Inflamed Lymph Nodes Under Tongue And Neck

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: I have swollen lymph nodes under the tongue and also in the neck, which I understand to be some form of immune reaction? There is a lump on the base of my skull which is hard like I bumped my head (but I didnt) and I feel a little confused and have had a headache for a few days. The swollen lymph nodes appeared after I recovered from a small upper respiratory virus which lasted 3 days.

Brief Answer:
Lymphadenopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Its common to have such lymphadenopathy which is in such a generalized distribution, related to a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen should help subside the lymphadenopathy. If there is high grade fever associated then antibiotics can be advised if focus of infection indicates a bacterial etiology. If a single node or group of nodes remains persistently enlarged 3 to 4 weeks after resolution of the infection then a biopsy (FNA or excisional) can be considered, in consult with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
