default
Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: I had a knee replacement 8 yrs ago then a year later had knee revision (strep in knee) This past December I saw ortho he said my knee shoes some lucency or loosening per X-ray. Inflamed lymph node rt groin but not bad maybe 1.6. Doctor said he would go on crp and sed rate which came back negative. Said I should get recheck in 3 months. I never did so which would of been March . I now feel so sick (nausea and just don't feel well) then some days I feel pretty good. My leg is sore thigh area where stem is. I'm taking 750 of levaquin till I can see doctor in XXXXXXX next Thursday which is May 12. Ok my worry is can this infection get to my bloodstream? Should I be waiting another week ? This is causing me so much anxiety. Not much pain but very worried. Should I try to get in sooner?

Brief Answer:
Some low ESR and CRP, no active risk of spread of infection to blood stream

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

If there is infection, the ESR and CRP will usually be high. Now no need to worry about infection spreading to the blood stream. The antibiotic needs to be continued as per your Surgeon's orders.

A PET scan or Technitium bone scan can show areas of infection as well as loosening which will be helpful to plan further management.

It is better to get the ESR and CRP values rechecked now and also get the above mentioned scans if you don't difficulty in walking as well.

As of now no risk of infection spreading to blood stream. Not to worry.

I hope I have answered your query.
