Suggest Treatment For Indigestion And Discomfort Chest Area

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: Hi I have been experiencing indigestion after every meal for about a month now. It's not painful, I just feel the food going coming back up slowly, say as far as my chest and then going back down. It's lasts for about 20 mins after I eat and sometimes I belch to get it to go away, after which, I get relief. It also happens when I drink, and is actually worse if I have drink with my meal. Should mention that for the last 5 or 6 years I have always coughed after a meal for a few seconds to feel 'clear'

Brief Answer:
you may require an upper GI endoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Your symptoms suggest a probability of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It could be due to gastric or duodenal ulcer as well.

I would suggest that you see a Gastroenterologist and get an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy done to look for ulcers if any.

For symptomatic treatment, you can take Tablet Omeprazole 20mg once daily on empty stomach. You can take TUMS as well after food for better digestion.

I suggest you to take less spicy, less oily and less fat content food to help reduce your symptoms. Consume more of fluids and fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid packed and processed foods.

Get well soon.
