Posted on Sat, 27 Jun 2015
Question: Hello. Since my internist had me stop Antenalol and begin Coreg (Carvedilol) my blood pressure has actually gone up to as high as 150/100. But what really concerns me is my resting heart rate the last two weeks. It's between 88 to as high at 122. But lately in the last week 92 to 102. Should I be concerned?
Thank you, XXXXX

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

You shouldn't worry to much about BP and HR, they are only slightly elevated.

Please can you send me the dose of coreg you are taking now?

If you were my patient I would recommend to increase the dose of coreg to 25 mg pee day before adding anything else to your therapy.

This dose will be efficient in controlling BP and HR.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

Thanks very much for the encouraging words. My coreg dose is 6.25 mg twice a day. I'll tell my physician about possibly doubling it in the future. By the way, I seem to be more tired and having diarrhia a lot. Are those symptoms common with this BP medicine?

Hi back,

What you are experiencing especially tiredness is a common side effect of carvedilol. Diarrhea is a less frequent side effect.

I encourage discussing with your doctor about increasing the dose of coreg.

Wish you health!

Thank you Dr. Shehu. Good news! This morning my BP was 120/87 and pulse 88, so maybe the 6.25 Coreg is finally working after taking it for two weeks. Also, the diarrhea has subsided but as you mentioned, there is tiredness a lot. Does that go away after a while or will it be something I have to live with while taking this drug?
Thanks again and have a nice weekend, XXXX

Hi back,

It's a great thing that your BP and HR are stabilised with correg. You should wait for a couple of weeks and the fatigue and tiredness will go away.

Wish you health!
