Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that these elevated blood pressure values may indicate the beginning of high blood pressure.

A single blood pressure can not lead into proper conclusions about arterial hypertension. That is why, I would recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure values frequently during the day (in sitting position after 10 minutes of total relax) and refer those values to your doctor.

If your blood pressure values are persistently high (above 140/90mm Hg), other tests to investigate for possible secondary causes of high blood pressure are needed:

- a chest X ray study
- a resting ECG
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes
- thyroid hormone levels
- fasting glucose
- PCR, ESR for inflammation.

Meanwhile, I would recommend some lifestyle modification to help maintain a normal blood pressure:

- reduce salt and caffeine intake
- try to perform a lot of physical activity (walking, aerobics, recreational sports, etc.)
- try to lose some pounds if you are overweight.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

I also can't sit still and feel anxious. I will look at salt intake and more exercise than I do now which is 3 times a week at the gym

Brief Answer:
I recommend follow this healthy lifestyle.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Anxiety can elevate your blood pressure too. It activates the sympathetic nervous system, causing a load of chatecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline) in your blood, leading to a raise in blood pressure and heart rate.

Anyway, I recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure in the next days and follow my recommendations of lifestyle changes.

These blood pressure values are not concerning. So, there is not reason to be anxious!

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
