Question: I've been taking losartan for high blood pressure ,100mg, for two weeks now, and in the beginning it lowered the pressure, but as the days passed the pressure just went up again it's now 158/86 and I'm wondering whether there might be another drug that could get it down and keep it down? What do you think

Brief Answer:
Please, can you provide more BP readings?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty that you have getting your blood pressure well controlled. At times, it takes multiple trials to identify the drug or combination of drugs that works best to control the blood pressure of different clients.

A single blood pressure reporting is not enough for me to conclude on how well this drug has been working. I will like to see more readings so as to be able to offer a ore informative interpretation of the numbers and make a recommendation.

I may not be rushing to change the medication if need be but, opting for a combination. For now, provide more readings and we shall pick up fro there.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Instead of giving you all the readings for the last month I figured the average for four weeks and it was 144/82 in the morning and 128/80 in the evening. What combination of meds were you thinking of?

Hi and thank you so much for this follow up precision.

This drug can be combined with a diuretic, beta blocker, calcium channel blockers, etc. Looking at your blood pressure numbers, there seems to be a big difference between the morning and the evening average. Increasing the strength of your medications would surely decrease further the average in the evenings and this would cause symptoms of fatigue. It would be interesting to try to identify what the reasons are for this discordance. May be you need a night time pill to get the morning blood pressures normal. How is your sleep? And at what times of the day do you feel most relaxed and fresh?

Talk to your doctor about my concerns. He would address them and consider revising the treatment. Unfortunately, I can not offer you a prescription for this as I am not your prescribing physician.

I hope that this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to keep the discussion going until you have gotten enough information to help address your concerns.
