Suggest Treatment For High BP And High Pulse Rate
Question: i am 55yr old male, and have been taking 5mg amlodipine for 5weeks, at home my blood pressure is 147/81 and my pulse rate is 61, I saw my doctor this morning who added 25mg of atenolol to my medication, as I was very anxious while it was being taken, I have read I reduces your pulse rate , mine is 60-61 bpm at present, how will this affect me, and my life style as I enjoy cycling and drive a fork truck in work do12hr night shifts.. is there an alternative to anetolol, to help reduce my blood pressure.

Atenolol will reduce your heart rate. If your resting heart rate is 60-61, 25mg Atenolol can be much for you. Actually there is no need for Atenolol in this case.
Anyway if you decide to take the atenolol, i would advise you to start with low dose, 12.5mg or 6.25 mg, half or 1/4 tab.
I think it will be better to increase Amlodipin dose or add another medication instead of Atenolol.
