Suggest Treatment For Green Stool Caused By Malabsorption Syndrome

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: Hi a friend has had patchy green and light brown stools since September. The stools are malodorous and so is the gas he passes. She also experienced serious low back pain during this time that she spent a great deal of time dealing with massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic attention. The back pain is gone now, but since the holidays (starting in late November) she noticed alopecia -- significant hair thinning at the windows peak -- that she did not have before. In the past week, fearing that the green stool and the hair loss are connected, she changed her diet and has only been eating fruits and vegetables for aiding in digestion and hair growth [salad, tomatoes, beets, almond milk, saurkraut, eggs, avocado, pumpki seeds, sweet potatoes, onions, bananas, blackberries] Her stool is completely green now. The stool is still malodorous, but it and her urine also have a chemical smell now too. Do you have any idea what this health problem is that is now 4 months old? Should we go to the emergency room or order a comprehensive stool test? http://www.walkinlab.com/home-lab-test-kits/parasite-stool-kits/comprehensive-digestive-stool-analysis-2-0tm-cdsa-2-0-genova-kit.html Thank you

Brief Answer:
Most likely due to malabsorption syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to malabsorption syndrome most likely. Stool routine examination as well as urine routine examination should be done to rule out this. Green stools usually occur due to fast moving of stools in gastro intestinal tract and indigestion. Excessive fibres also can cause indigestion.
In case of urinary tract infection also can cause bowel irritation. In such case a short course of antibiotic will be needed also.

In case of malabsorption syndrome I would suggest taking antibiotics like metronidazole or tinidazole 2 gram as single dose. I also recommend taking probiotics like sacharomyces boulardi , kefir or yogurt and banana.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
