default
Posted on Wed, 14 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, This is XXXX 27 Year Male, I think i had/have jock itch for some time (2 year). Although looks like the fungus infection/spread has subsided but the dark patch on the upper and lower thigh in the groin area on both sides does't seem to go away. Is there any cream/spray or powder that i can use to get rid of this discoloration quickly.

My groin area skin colour changed to red. some area changed to black.

Iam 95 kgs, and i have big thighs i usually get sweat near my groin area. I think my groin area skin effected badly. Can u please let me know weather it is a jock itch or fungal infection or pigmentation problem,And suggest the medicine.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment for the fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Sorry for the delay in replying .
I have seen the attached pictures .
You seem to have developed tinea which is basically a fungal infection of the area .
Now this infection is very common in summers due to excessive sweating in this area .
You need to keep the affected area clean and dry .
Apply a topical anti fungal cream like terbinfine cream over the area twice daily regularly for two weeks .
In addition ,you might need a course of oral antifungal agent like tablet fluconazole 150 mg once a week .
Take some oral antihistamines like Benadryl or levocetrizine along to relieve the associated itching and allergy .
Wear cotton undergarments so as to decrease sweating and prevent further infection .
Do not apply any other cream or oil over the affected area.
Once the infection heals up completely ,then you can start with application of topical skin lightening agent like kojic acid cream over the area twice daily to decrease the pigmentation.

Hope it helps

Please ask if you need any further clarifications

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for the reply and detailed description,

i got confused with usage of medicine.

1) terbinfine cream over the area twice daily regularly for two weeks.

2)antifungal agent like tablet fluconazole 150 mg once a week (How long i need to use like 2 weeks or 4 weeks)

3) Take some oral antihistamines like Benadryl or levocetrizine along to relieve the associated itching and allergy. (Here is the actual confusion Can you please suggest the best medicine out of 'enadryl or levocetrizine' which helps to solve the problem quickly and effectively and most important thing is the usage of medicine whether i need to take it daily or weekly, and these are tablets or cream.

4) topical skin lightening agent like kojic acid cream over the area twice daily

Points 1 and 4 are clear can u please help me to understand points 2 and 3.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Take tablet fluconazole 150 mg once a week for two weeks ,which means you have to take two tablets at weekly intervals.
In addition ,take tablet levocetrizine 5 mg at night daily for one week ,this will reduce the associated itching .

Hope it helps
