Suggest Treatment For Fibromyalgia?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Oct 2014
Question: I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and an intestinal ulcer. In the last 24 hours, I have begun to feel dizzy on and off, especially after urinating or defecating. I have an indepth cardiac exam within the last four months, and all is very good except a slight mitral valve prolapse. I have also recently has an ultrasound of my thoracic cavity, and all was found to be fine there too (except the ulcer, of course). I am not in any pain, but the dizziness is accompanied by anxiety. I feel distracted and tense. After a little while, it goes away, only to come back again later. It is almost "that time of the month", too, which has given me dizzy spells before, but never like this, and never associated with going to the bathroom. Also, after going to the bathroom, my stomach muscle feel tired and sore, but I am not straining at all. I have an appt. with a GI specialist tomorrow, but if this is an emergency, I don't want to wait.

Brief Answer:
It doesn't seem to be emergent.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

It doesn't seem to be an emergency. It can wait till tomorrow for your GI specialist consult.
Since you haven't mentioned anything about your stools ,I may assume that they are in normal consistency ,frequency and color (for example if you have loose stools, frequent defecation and the stools have black color it might be a sign of significant gastrointestinal bleeding ,which can be the cause of your dizziness).

In your case there are some possible causes for your dizziness:
-Low blood pressure (I suggest to measure your blood pressure at home if it is possible for you)
-Anemia (low red blood cells and low hemoglobin).
Since you have a history of gastrointestinal ulcer ,it is possible to have small chronic bleeding that doesn't cause any change in bowel habit or in stools color but can cause iron-deficiency anemia, which can be responsible for your dizziness.
I suggest to do a Complete blood count test to see the level of RBC and Hemoglobin.
-Anxiety can cause such symptoms. If you are experiencing stress and anxiety this period of time ,it might be the cause.

If you don't have any other symptoms such pale skin, low blood pressure ,black stools or significant abdominal pain ,you don't need to worry,it doesn't seem to be an emergency .You can wait until tomorrow and get examined by your doctor.
Meanwhile I suggest to get a lot of rest ,eat regularly and drink plenty of fluids.

Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have other questions or doubts to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

The admins at the GI specialist gave me the wrong day. It seems to just be getting worse. I am very tired too. Should I contact my PCP or consider going to ER?

Brief Answer:
Consider going to the ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
I am sorry you are feeling worse.

Since your dizziness is getting worse, you are feeling weak and tired ,and it may take some time before seeing your GI specialist ,you may consider going to the ER.
They can do the tests and investigations right away if it is necessary.
They will do blood tests to exclude anemia ,a fecal ocult blood test to see if there is blood in stools.

So ,if your symptoms are getting worse ,go to the ER to get examined and get the tests done.

I wish you good luck.
Take care,

Dr.Rovena
