Is Intercourse Safe After A Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication Surgery?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Mar 2017
Question: I have a personal question about sex after hiatal hernia and laparoscopy nissen fundoplication.

it's 13 today after my nissen fundoplication. and I haven't had sexual contact since.
I know I should not be a part of physical sex after hiatal hernia repair; just to be on the safe side.
But is it unsafe to have sex if I let the girlfriend be on top and do the work ? I know the orgasm itself make tension through your whole body; but can this destroy the stitches; when lying flat on your back ?

best regards

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
My thoughts and advise:
I can understand that you are young.
There was a gap between the thoracic cavity and the abdominal cavity which has been repaired and Nissa's fundoplication is also been done.
It takes about 3 weeks for some healing and about 6 weeks to have good strength in any wounds in the body.
Any activity that increases the intra-abdominal pressure can cause disruption.
Sexual activity in young age can be harsh and hence it is better to wait for the time being if it is 13 days post-op.
After three weeks you can try with the girlfriend be on-top without any pressure on the abdomen or the chest and be very slow and tender.
Better to wait for 6 weeks if you can.
Masturbation can be tried if ejaculation is needed for relaxation.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is gap of communication.

thanks for the last answer

you always know what you're talking about; so I'll just keep asking if I have some concerns.

I have one other thing to ask you.
I didn't have hiccups before the surgery even I had problems with reflux
now it's 19 days after the surgery

I have single hiccups after I eat, or after I drink; sometimes while I eat.
( I know I often eat to fast or drink to fast or swallow too much air)

My hiccups are not persistence but always occurs single and then they're gone for hours. Sometimes they come randomly

I just want to know if hiccups is a normal thing after having nissen fundoplcation and if it's safe to hiccups from time to time; without destroying my hiatal hernia repair.

I never have hiccups episodes that last for than a few seconds.

Brief Answer:
Due to irritation of diaphragm.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your appreciation.
Hiccoughs are coming occasionally as a response to the irritation of the diaphragm. Hence it is normal for single hiccough to come after Nissen's fundoplication. Few ones after 18 day of surgery may not really cause any problems for the repair of hiatus hernia.
Now after the surgery, you have to eat and drink slow.
So not to worry.
