Suggest Treatment For Fibromyalgia While On Gabapentin
Question: My 37 year old daughter has be diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. She has been under tremendous pressure from her job and from surgery for a complete hysterectomy. (March, 2016) She tried Lyrica, but experienced negative side effects. I purchased Fibrolief, a product with natural ingredients and continue to supply her with a monthly container. Fibrolief is a product from the Fibromyalgia Treatment Group. I took the information to her doctor and two additional pharmacists to insure the ingredients were safe. Is Gabapentin a better medication for her to consider? What other ideas do you recommend. She is trying to curb situations that cause tension. She takes meds to sleep. I can understand your concern. Fibromyalgia is a disorder with different presentation. The exact ethology and psychopathology have not yet been studied. In some studies there is direct relationship between stress and symptoms. Reduction of stress and remaining relaxed help a lot in improving the symptoms.
If she is not getting proper relief with Lyrica then yes Gabapentin can be tried. Gabapentin is almost similar in actions as Lyrical but response can be different so the drug can be tried.
Other options I'd suggest you to consider starting SNRI drugs like Duloxetine. The drug is an antidepressant drug but has great efficacy in controlling pain symptoms and has great effects in fibromyalgia. You can think of this drug for her. The drug is safe to use and can be used with Lyrica or Gabapentin.
Other option is to include drugs like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline in her prescription. These drugs are available in combination with Pregabalin or Gabapentin too. The combination has great efficacy in fibromyalgia symptoms.
So please talk with her doctor for these drugs and take proper prescription.
