Suggest Treatment For Ear And Facial Pain Along With Infection
Question: 49yo woman w/4 month hx of ear pain and facial pain. ENT Dr's x2 say exam,CT sinuses,CT temporal bones,naso pahryngeal scope normal,advising me to see a neurologist re:pain. What could be the problem? ear and facial pain w/o infection.

I have noted your symptoms and the fact that ENT examinations and investigations were within normal limits.
The pain seems to be neuralgic in nature, and occurring in the region of trigeminal nerve. If the pain is episodic, it could be trigeminal neuralgia. However, if the pain is persistent and present for longer periods, then, we are dealing with atypical trigeminal neuralgia or atypical facial pain.
Generally, an MRI of brain with focus on trigeminal nerve area would be needed to determine the underlying cause.
