Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough And Fever
Question: My wife is having dry cough from last 3 days and taking ALCOF-Dx from yesterday 2 times a day but not much improvement. what shall she take ??
No fever..no other issues. only no XXXXXXX to eat anything because of cold

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad , and i will try to help you in this regard.
Your wife's problem looks like a viral cough, viral coughs actually heal by themselves and there is no special medicine for their cure but what we do is, we do different methods to relieve symptoms till body heals itself.
So here i will come up with some meds and also home remedies plus life style changes for relief.
1) Stay hydrated:
Dry cough usually occurs with dry throat so keep sipping water all the day and when she gets cough bouts drink much water at that time too, even if she isnt thirsty she should drink water.
2) Hot drinks:
Hot drinks which are not irritable for throat can relieve the cough.
3) Lozengez:
Menthcough drops help reducing cough.
4) Avoid culprit meds:
Sometimes cough occurs because of meds like ACE inhibitors given for blood pressure control if she is taking any such meds she cn swithc to other meds.
5) Take steam inhalation:
Inhalation of steams humidifies back of throat and really helps with the symptoms.
6) Avoid Sour cold things:
Avoid sour cold things like fizzy drinks etc.
7) Nasal decongestant:
She can use any decongestant spray of Tablet Alegra D.
8) Anti histmines:
Over the counter tablet Citrzine 10mg can be used daily at night.
9)Cough syrup:
Delsym, Nyquil, Robitussin-DM... there are some good over the counter brands for cough relief.
10) Keep stomach acid free..:
Stomach acid also aids in cough production if she has these issues , use an antacid , i would also suggest my patients to take omeprazole daily before breakfast it really helps keeping the throat from irritation.
What to expect:
Virals usually take 7-10 days to get better she will get better don't worry , just use remedies and meds which i suggested for quick cure.
