Suggest Treatment For Dizziness, Weakness And Disorientation In A Diabetic

Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, I really overdid the sweets last night(being diabetic, that's a big no-no)! This morning,I woke up disoriented, unsteady on my feet, and weak. I did not have my glucose meter with me, so I can't tell you what my blood sugars were. Could I have been in the danger zone with the symptoms I listed, and How can I naturally bring those levels down, if I suspect they are too high? Thank you, N.Thomas

Brief Answer:
Neurological problem should be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The symptoms you mentioned are suggestive for hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.
Usually low blood sugar is caused by an high insulin dose or oral antidiabetic tablets. As you are not under treatment for Diabetes and the blood sugar checked a few days ago, than the symptoms can not be related to fluctuations of blood sugar.
I would suggest an neurological examination to exlude a transitory ischemic event. Rhe symptoms are highly suggestive for it.
Wish you good health.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Would you be able/willing to share that information with my DR.?
As a Kaiser patient, I have found it difficult to get any specialized tests aside from blood work. Also, I had an ablation, and angioplasty, as well as having a malignant tumor removed from my right breast, over the course of the last 10 years. Could any of these contribute to my symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Arythmia may contribute.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back!
Well, ablation is a good way of treatment of arythmia but it may happen that after a period of time it comes back again, even after ablation. So you should see you cardiologist and remain under close follow-up.
Regarding to malignant tumor of the breast, you should also remain under control because recurrences may occur even after 10 years.
For the symptoms you reported i see the neurologist more helpful.

Wish you good health.
Kind regards,
Dr.MIrjeta
