Question: I've had diarrhea for several hours, along with nausea. And I'm having a terrific pain in my lower left leg. Could theses symptoms be related? I'm a 66- year-old male.

Brief Answer:
Yes they are sir, leg cramps/pain due to electrolyte imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Leg cramps and pain is quite commonly associated with an electrolyte disturbance that is caused due to the severe loss of fluids and electrolytes through diarrhoea.

Most episodes of diarrhoea are self limiting and they do resolve within a few days of time, but during this time rehydration and the use of a solution or fluid to replenish electrolytes that are lost (e.g. oral rehydration solutions) or a diet that is called the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) helps a lot.

I do however would like to know when and how exactly your diarrhoea started:

+What did you eat about 2-6 hours prior to the initiation of your symptoms?
+Has the diarrhoea been only today?
+Are you drinking as many fluids as possible?

I look forward to hearing from you in order to help you further, but in response to your primary question, yes these two are related as explained above sir.

Best wishes.
