Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea Caused After Food Poisoning
Question: For two days now, I have watery stools almost 10 times a day. Went to the doctor and she diagnosed it as food poisoning. Started medication since last night. Late last night around 1 AM, had severe chills though the weather was alright. Had a bout of vomiting at the same time.
Have been feeling very weak today. Had only curd rice for lunch and even that I vomited after about two hours. Diarrhea is still continuing.

Acute diarrheal illness will usually take about 5 to 7 days for full recovery. During this period,along with the drugs you are already given,you maintain proper hydration by taking rehydrating solutions like ORS, 250 ml after each purge, in small frequent sips. This will greatly help in reducing lassitude and dizziness.
For vomiting, I usually give antiemetic like domperidone also.
If the fever and chills persists even after 2 days of zenflox oz,or severe vomiting prevent oral rehydration, we need admission and intravenous fluids and antibiotics.your treating doctor will guide in these.
Otherwise, if it is coming down, just continue the given drugs along with ORS.It will be controlled slowly in about 5 days. ORS is the most important part of therapy. Salted rice water is also good. Avoid fruits, juice and high fiber diet till full recovery.
