Question: Hi doc, I am 67 years old male and for the past 3/4 days have had food poisoning. The first day or two I was violently sick ending in bile. My concern now is that for the past couple of nights I have been waking up having had a runny discharge from my back passage, not blood. During the day I am on the toilet about a dozen times with dia-rroea and flatulence. I am normaly healthy with the usual meds for someone my age. Can you advise please

Thanks for posting your query.

The diarrhea you have is probably be due to a stomach bug.
A stool analysis may be done for confirmation.
I presume your last screening colonoscopy did not reveal anything abnormal.

You may need a course of antibiotics ( Ciprofloxacin +metronidazole).
Taking probiotics with it would be beneficial.

Drink enough fluids to remain well hydrated.
Good urine output and moist tongue are indicators of good hydration.

You can BRAT diet ( Banana Rice Apple sauce Toast).
