Question: Now that I have a good reference as how to treat my mom in her last stages of 4 bowel cancer, I need to ask when it is over, what do I do, no funeral as per her wishes. just have a party and laugh more than cry. I cant do that. if anyone even looks at me now or touches me and says I am so sorry. I fall apart. what can i do to make it through the rough time ahead. all i want to do is be by myself, sleep and forget. i am on sertraline for depression, ativan for anxiety. Nothing helps even now. ativan 2mg twice a day and sertraline in the morning 100mg. Anything I can take for the short period after her death to calm me down as i have to work. My sisters and I do not and i repeat get along at all. when dad died at the age of 40 from hodgkins disease, i was both parent and sister to them when my mom and dad had to go to Calgary for chemo and radiation, sometimes having to stay for couple of weeks at a time. I just feel that when I see my beautiful mom looking like a holocaust victim brings back all the memories of my dad dying. my mom and dad now look like they are twins only 1 has white hair and 1 had dark hair.but their featurs look the same. That face that has haunted me for years is back in my mom and I cant get it out of my head.

Brief Answer: Supportive psychotherapy Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. I can understand the stress that you are undergoing. The ill health of the near and dear ones can be very stressful and this time its your own mother. I understand that you are on 100mg sertraline and 4 mg lorazepam in 2 divided doses, but still your depressive symptoms are very much evident. I guess along with these medicines,it would be worthwhile to have some psychotherapy sessions as well. Supportive psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy are good options. In supportive psychotheraoy, the therapist will try to vent out your distress and denial and that will make you feel better. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is taken by either a psychologist or a psychiatrist in which the therapist identifies impaired cognitions (Thoughts) and try to correct them. They are 15-20 min weekly session and there should be around 8-10 sessions to help you with your illness. Both these therapies will help you along with the medicines. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
