Suggest Treatment For Degenerative Arthritis Post A Knee-replacement Surgery

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: I've had 4-knee operations and have no cartlidge and have degenerative arthritis. My doctor suggested a knee replacement over ten years ago and I decided not to do it. I'm dealing with the discomfort. About three weeks ago, I noticed a hard lump on the side of my knee. It doesn't hurt and I would like to know what could be the cause of this lump. It's about 1 inch in diameter.

Brief Answer:
Lump due to degenerative inflammatory processes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Let me recapitalize your case:
- 61 years old male
- personal history of open heart surgery for mechanical valve replacement
- 4 knee operations, no cartilage, degenerative arthritis
- recently: 1 inch in diameter hard lump on the side of your knee, not hurting

Inflammatory changes in the knee joint due to degenerative arthritis can cause joint deformities, that can be expressed with the presence of lump on the side of the knee.

Further X-ray of the knee joint is recommended for deeper evaluation. If orthopedic surgeon asks to get the knee operated, please follow his/her advice as it is given for your best.

Knee joint will keep all the body weight. If not anatomically normal, it cannot run the normal function for which it is designed.

Hope this helps.

Can I do anything other than a doctor visit to reduce the size? As I said, it doesn't hurt at all.

Brief Answer:
Unfortunately should evaluate the status of knee joint first

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Your case is very delicate. Without doctor's examination and xray, nothing is advised to do. This is to prevent the worst. Instead of doing good, we'll make it worse.

I want to be sure about the actual status of knee joint components although you are not having any pain at all.

Think it over.
