Suggest Treatment For Constipation After Robotic Hysterectomy

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: I had a complete vaginal Divinci robotic hysterectomy 2 years ago. I had screaming (literally) pain with bowel movements immediately afterwards that lasted several months. My anus felt and appeared burned. Once the pain resolved, my stools became small and occasionally squared on one side. They have increased somewhat in dimension, but as I approach the 2-year mark, I am concerned that they have not returned to normal. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
It's normal if you have constipation...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Da Vinci robotic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive procedue to remove uterus. The burning anus you felt might be related to diarrhea following operation most probably due to antibiotic use.

As your feces are squared on one side, and you are reporting to be using milk of magnesia, then, this makes me think that you are having problems with constipation.

It is normal for the feces to be hard and small sized if you are constipated. Try to avoid constipation and everything will be normal:
- increase water intake
- take probiotics
- eat more fruits and vegetables

Hope it answered to your queries!

Thank you. I wanted to clarify that My stools are soft and regular (daily), although I am frequently bloated and feel like everything isn't being passed. I also had hemmoroids immediately after the operation which still flare from time to time. My movements were normal up until the operation and changes occurred immediately following. I guess my intestines also had to reposition...

Brief Answer:
Hemorrhoids explaining the stool changes.....

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for providing more of your medical data.

As you are reporting to have been suffering of hemorrhoids, then, this explains the changes in your stool size. This is completely normal. It was normal the burning sensation you had immediately after operation, at the time when you suffered of hemorrhoids.

Once again, that is normal.

Try to avoid constipation to prevent hemorrhoids flare ups.

All the best!
