Suggest Treatment For Constant Sneezing, Cold, Runny Nose And Cough

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: I have sneezing cold with watery nose and cough. It started mostly with an irritaion in throat followed by a cough and then cold. No fever as such. Cough is mostly wet and it has changed my voice a bit. Looks like allergic cold and the cough gets triggerred periodically when I feel something touched in my throat. Feeling little weak and lazy as well.

Not consulted a doctor yet and under home medication. Took a dose of Dolo 650 and citrizine yesterday.

Please advise if there is any other medication I can try before I decide to consult a doctor especially for cough. Symptoms are from past 2 to 3 days.

History: This started with my 10 month old daughter. She also had cold and cough and later treated with Azee 100 antibiotics and levolin syrup. She still has cough but better than before and completed 5 days medicine 3 days back. Now myslef, my wife and my brother pretty much have the same symtoms as mine but no one has fever.

Brief Answer:
cough and cold but no fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question on HCM

I do understand your pain and discomforts

As per your clinical history is concerned let me clarify every point step wise-:

1)you have problems of cough, cold, watery nose but you have no fever, so in my opinion as you have no fever i may say it as due to allergy only which happens due to various substances.you can do radioallergosorbent test as well as blood differential count to know possible allergens.

2)Medications which can be used to treat this condition include nasal corticosteroids, antihistamins like diphenhydramine, nasal decongestants, leukotriene modifier and oral corticosteroids etc so discuss in detail with your treating doctor because he will prescribe it for you.

3)Regarding your daughter i may say that she had an infection for which she was given an antibiotic.

4)you can do few things at home which will give you comforts -:

Mix 1 teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda in 2 cups of warm distilled water. Using a nasal bulb, snort a small amount of this solution into one nostril.

Allow the solution to drain back out through the other nostril or through the mouth. Gently blow your nose to remove excess mucus and solution. Follow this same process with the other nostril. Repeat this remedy a couple of times daily until your condition improves

5)Pour boiling water in a big bowl. Add 3 or 4 drops of any essential oil of your choice like eucalyptus, peppermint, XXXXXXX or tea tree oil. Cover your head with a towel and lean carefully over the bowl. Deeply inhale the steam for 5 to 10 minutes, then blow your nose thoroughly. Repeat several times a day until you recover completely

Hope that helps
