Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX

My wife has cold with running nose (yellow colour secretion) & dry lips since last 5-6 days. Initially, she had bad throat also (irritation in the throat) but that has gone fully by drinking lukewarm water & doing gargles with lukewarm salt water. Can you please suggest medicines for running nose & lips getting dried?

Brief Answer:
....Season's Greetings....

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome back,

First of all, Wishing a very Happy New Year 2017 and Season's Greetings to all of you..

Seems like she's having a bout of bacterial/viral upper respiratory tract infection..

The dry lips is mainly due to dehydration(during such disease process body's demand for water increases so well hydration is extremely important).. make sure she drinks at least 2.5-3 ltr water per day..apply simple vaseline/paraffin over the lips, it'll take care of the dryness.. good that she's drinking XXXXXXX warm water, let it continue.. apart from that, let her drink plenty of hot beverages (soups, broths, porridge, bournvita, herbal tea etc.)..

Although 5-6 days passed by, still i'd prefer a short course of Antibiotics , Cap COAMOXYCLAV (Amoxicillin/Clavulunate 500 mg/125 mg) several brand names available (eg. AUGMENTIN) Twice Daily for 5 Days after meals (Please get the necessary prescription from your local physician and do ensure that she's not allergic to it)..

Secondly, Tab SINAREST 10mg Three times daily (during or after meal) for next 3-4 days..it'll take care of secretions and congestion symptoms (prescription drug)..

Also let her take steam inhalation twice/thrice daily for next few days..

Just follow these, she should be fine..needless to mention proper covering of head, neck during winter times, avoid direct exposure to cold air for the time being..avoid sour foods and dairy products for the time being too..

Let me know how she stays later on..

Take Care
Kind Regards
