Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hepatitis-C

Question: My son has Hep C with evaluated transaminases with an AST 61 and an ALT 114 and a RNA 5,696,000 and is genotype 2B, Albumin is normal at 4.2 as is bilirubin is 0.8 how serious is this to be started on treatment?

Also what kind of treatment and pills do you suggest for his treatment and how soon would you start to treat?

Based on the data you provided, your son has chronic hepatitis C which need to be treated (because he has high transaminases and high RNA level).

To determine the necessity of immediate treatment, I would recommend hepatic elastography. This procedure serve to determine the degree of hepatic fibrosis. If the index of hepatic fibrosis is >F3 than he should start immediate treatment.

The best treatment for chronic hepatitis C genotype 2B is sofosbuvir and weight-based Ribavirine for 12 weeks. Since these are medications I would recommend to discus with his doctors for the best therapeutic regimen.
