Question: My wife has a deep, chronic cough that has been going on for a year. She has had an allergy test with no significant findings. She takes breathing therapy sessions but no relief. It is getting worse, not better and we do not know where to go now to get relief. It is really bad and is continuous all day

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT two rule out cough variant asthma and bronchitis.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Allergy testing is not always beneficial.
And if it is negative, it does not rule out allergy ad a cause.
In my opinion, possibility of cough variant asthma or bronchitis is more.
For this, she needs PFT (pulmonary function test).
Chest x ray is also needed to rule out chronic infection because they can also cause chronic deep cough.
So please let me know
1. Is she smoke?
2. Chest x ray and PFT done in the past or not?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your wife. Thanks.
