Brief Answer:
Treatment of choice for a keloid is intralesional depot steroid injection

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query and I have noted down your concern

Keloids are due to excessive collagen deposition at sites of trauma. Sometimes they may arise without history of previous trauma. Chest and shoulder are most common sites for keloid formation. Acne on chest may be followed by keloidal scaring.

Treatment of choice for keloidal scaring is intralesional depot injection of triamcinolone acetonide 40mg/ml with the help of a 26 gauze needle. This usually causes a keloid to flatten after 1-3 injections given at an interval of 3 weeks between 2 injections. Intralesional steroid injection is an office procedure administered by a dermatologist and I suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your vicinity for the needful.

Brief Answer:
Keloids may recur; injection is somewhat painful.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Keloid may recur but that is not the rule in all patients and with all keloids. Recurrences are managed the same way.

Intralesional injections are somewhat painful because keloids are usually firm/ hard and the injection has to be accomodated in that limited space. Most patients take it without any anesthesia.
However, a painkiller may be taken 1-2 hour before injection to dminish procedural pain. There is no need for any medication after injection.

I personally dont know a dermatologist in XXXXXXX However intralesional injection is a very minor procedure and all dermatologists are well trained in intralesional steroid injections. You may visit a dermatologist of your own choice in your vicinity for the needful.
