Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I have a bump on my index finger, it is smooth and hard almost like it is jelly filled. Any ideas? I have had this for about a year or so and another newer one is starting to form on the other hand.

Brief Answer:
Possible viral infection, infectious.

Detailed Answer:
My Dear

Welcome to the site!

I have noted your concerns. This type of picture is most likely to have been caused by a viral infection which belongs to the same family as warts but are different from warts in the sense that the lesions look jelly filled with a cheesy material of off-white color.

This infection generally has insignificant symptoms. It can spread from the original site to other body areas as well as to another person and therefore, removal is advisable. There are several ways in which it can be got rid off.

1 your doctor can simply use a needle to extract the whole lesion using a needle and by lifting it from the base and then apply some antibiotic cream to prevent infection till it heals

2 Some people prefer to apply a chemical which will destroy the lesion and it will shed in few days time

3 For a faster and less painful way, it is better to get it removed under local anesthesia and then either use scoop out/ use Radio Frequency machine/ less commonly laser treatment.

Please make sure to check your body and get all the lesions removed and take precautions to get reinfected and also about passing o the infection to another person.

We hope you will be well soon.
Our best wishes!
