Suggest Treatment For Bruise In The Hip And Hematoma After Accident

default
Posted on Thu, 28 May 2015
Question: Hello,

I fell onto some steps and got a huge bruise on my hip pointer. It has been exactly one week since the accident and while the bruise is getting better, it is still swollen and it feels like I have a hematoma in the area. I have read that this can go away without treatment. It does not hurt at all unless I put pressure onto the area.

Am I at risk for anything more serious? Is there anything I can do to decrease the hematoma? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

It is normal to experience bruising and swelling after an injury because there is trauma of the soft tissue.
It may take some time to get better and go away completely, probably few weeks.
The fact that you don't have significant pain and have no problems walking ,indicates that there is no significant injury.

You can apply warm compresses to help the hematoma several times a day to resolve faster.Try to rest as much as you can.
You may need just to observe it and if you start having other symptoms like stronger pain that spread down the leg, numbness in leg, you need to consult your doctor right away. This symptoms might indicate a complication of the hematoma and compression of the nerves of that area.
Considering your symptoms ,it doesn't seem that there is something to worry about.
If after few weeks the hematoma and swelling have not decreased ,you need to get it checked with your doctor. It might be necessary to drain the hematoma to speed up the recovery.

Hope it helps.
Please feel free to ask for any question you might have.

Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
