Suggest Treatment For Broken Vertebrae

Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: I have been told by my doctor, a MRI and conventional x-rays that I have a broken T11 vertebrae. I was put in a wheelchair and told to lie down as much as possible.
I was also told that my shortness of breath and COPD (which I never had before I fell) is due to the fracture. Also, that I had a heart problem and put on oxygen 24/7 This is part of a lawsuit and it doesn't seem my attorney is getting any of the information I feel he needs.
Is that possible

Brief Answer:
COPD cannot be caused by vertebral fractures

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

COPD is long term lung condition, which builds over a period, it may become symptomatic later or there may be minimal symptoms episodes in between.

COPD is unrelated to broken vertebra. Its just that since you have being lying down for long, lungs are not getting cleared of fluids easily and this has precipitated your pre-existing COPD.

So it will be difficult to prove connection between broken vertebra and COPD.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.
