Question: Dear Doctor, I had a full sedated colonoscopy in XXXXXXX this year and everything was fine. From a month now, I have had blood on my stool and when I wipe. I went to do the doctor that said this was due to my hemorroids(internal and external). I am very much afraid of this. Can it be cancer? I am frightened. please help me.

Hi and welcome to HCM!
I am Dr.Klerida Shehu gastroenterologist.

You are reporting to have done colonoscopy 6 month ago. This is a short period of time to get colon cancer.
So don't worry it is not cancer.

On the other hand, you have blood stools especially when you wipe , at the end of defecation. This is a typical symptom of hemorrhoids, especially if you have fresh and red blood in stools.
So your symptoms totally agree with the finding of hemorrhoids.

At this situation I would recommend to avoid constipations follows :
- use plenty of water
- use olive oil 2 teaspoon per day
- use fresh fruits and vegetables reached in fibers/ fiber packs
- increase physical activity
-use stool softener if needed like Metamucil

Meantime I suggest to use Preparation H to help improving your symptoms.

Hope it was helpful to you!

Dr. Klerida,

I am so frightened. Today, I went to the bathroom and the stools wore soft, but there was still blood on top of them. like thin stripes: bright red blood. when I wiped there was just a little bit of blood. I am really scared, considering that I did the fulll colonoscopy on XXXXXXX this year. I am taking normacol to soften the stool. I will go to my gatroenterologist next week, but this situation has been going on and off since october and I am so scared. The docotor who did the colonoscopy is considered to be one of the best in Portugal, so he must not have seen everything, I guess. I can not be cancer, right? please answer me

Brief Answer:
You have only hemorroids....

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

There is nothing to be worried at your case.

You have done a full colonoscopy only six months ago, so there is no way in such a short period to develop cancer.

The fact that the endoscopist was the best and with experience on colonoscopy , definitely rule out the posibility of having colon cancer.

Let me explain again red bright blood on stool is a typical sign of hemorroids.

So there is nothing to suspect to have cancer.

Please bare in mind your symptoms are not related with colon cancer.

Please enjoy your life .
Wish you A Happy New Year.
