Brief Answer:
Need to see the scans

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX. i am so sorry to hear about your brother. I know that you gave a call to the service as well. I am glad you posted a query here. Now i can explain in detail.

A blood clot is a general term for a bleed in the brain. The 2 most important piece of information that you can give me are

1) The Position of the Bleed in the brain
2) The Size of the clot at presentation

From that can extrapolate treatment and chances of recovery.

To that effect. the best thing you can do is upload he CT scan to the site in it's entirety so I can see it for myself. That will give us the best discussion and information possible.

My prayers with your brother.

Vinay

Brief Answer:
The existing clot will resolve, but what caused it

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for following up. I am very glad to hear that your brother is going better.

He developed a clot in the large veins on the inner surface if the skull. Once clotted, this will prevent blood from draining OUT of the Brain. Arterial blood coming through the Carotids does not stop coming in. So you have free flow of blood in, but little or no blood out of the brain.. The brain begins to swell and the pressure in the brain goes up. This is a dangerous situation which can be controlled medially by giving medication which bring down swelling by making the patient urinate more and more... That is the function of 'Mannitol'.

Epsolin is an antiseizure medication that he may need to be on for a long time (several month)

Clexane is an anti clotting drug which would prevent the clot in the sinus from growing even bigger.

Chances of recurrence are present... so it might be a good idea to put him on Warfarin or some such oral anti clotting medication. This will lvwe the risk of recurrence..
