Suggest Treatment For Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Question: Male 69 healthy no meds . I have mild bph but the median lobe is pressing into the bladder and sometimes acts like a valve stopping urine flow. I have tried saw palmetto, rye grass pollen and beta sitoseral . I am considering the green light laser or turp . Which would be better to address the enlarged median lobe ? Does the green light have less chance of sexual dysfunction?

Hi,
You can get a test called uroflowmetry done , and if your peak flow rate is less than 12ml/sec, you should have a good improvement with surgery.
Both greenlight laser and TURP are good, but more than sexual dysfunction, they could cause retrograde ejaculation which means semen will probably go back into bladder on emission due to the open space after the enlarged prostate has been removed. Detections usually remain the way they were earlier.
The other option would be to try and use drugs like Flomax.
