Question: I contracted a BV, took antibiotics and then it resulted in a yeast infection. i've been treated 3 times for this yeast infection with no luck. first with 2 pills of diflucan and was still symptomatic so the doc gave me a prescription for amoxocillin. went back and saw another doc and she told me to switch my diet to no/low sugar, carbs, and dairy, take probiotics and gave me 5 more diflucans. finished the prescription yesterday and i'm still not symptom-free. i'm started to get really nervous since this has been over a month and i can't seem to get rid of this yeast. anything else that i can do to help?

Brief Answer:
need to be rechecked

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It does not sound like yeast is the problem. You need to be checked again for yeast, BV and sexually transmitted infections. It really sounds like something else is going on besides a yeast infection. Either the BV was not treated effectively the first time or you have something else causing itching like trichomonas. Please see a doctor again for complete testing for all vaginal infections.

I was examed by the doctor at 3 different occasions. The first time I was screened for all stds and trich came back negative as did everything except the BV. Was given antibiotics which doc thinks caused the initial yeast infection. Took monistat but no luck so was rechecked and given Diflucan be doc saw yeast all along my walls. Didn't go away after 2 pills so they gave me amoxocillon which in my opinion made the yeast infection even worse. Then examined for 3rd time given 5 pills of Diflucan but still not healed even after changing diet. What gives? I don't know what else I can do.

And I forgot to mention the lab work of the 2nd pap came back with a normal strep for yeast.

Detailed Answer:
I agree that the amoxicillin probably made things worse. What antibiotic were you given initially to treat the BV?

i was given Doxcycline for 7 days. the past 2 doctor visits when they looked at my cervix they said i had alot of yeast but i'm wondering why its not discharging from my body like it normally has in the past. it's like it's staying attached to my internal walls since my discharge is so minimal. should i try another monistat7 treatment? or will that make things worse? thanks for all your help doctor. just wish i knew how to make myself healthy again. i haven't been sexually active in over 2 months since being infected from my cheating partner and wish i could just return to my normal healthy ph-balanced self. saying prayers for a miracle.

Brief Answer:
monistat will not hurt anything

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It certainly will not hurt anything to try the monistat if you feel that you still have yeast. My concern is that you still have BV. Doxycycline does not treat BV. You need either metronidazole or clindamycin to treat BV. Doxycycline is used to treat some STDs but not BV. Please see your doctor for appropriate treatment for BV.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
