Brief Answer: Life makes you wise as age progress. Detailed Answer: Dear XXXX Welcome We understand your concerns I went through your details. I suggest you not to worry much. Anxiety is disorder and not a disease. Disorder means a mental condition. Mental condition can be treated with change in life style. I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from anxiety disorder for 24 years. That means you are not treating anxiety, instead you are treating its further symptoms like insomnia and depression. The medicine you are taking is usually prescribed for insomnia and depression and it contains clonazepam 0.5 mg, and escitalopram oxalate 10 mg. That means your anxiety disorder is not treated properly. It is also meant that you are having insomnia and mood disturbances or Emotional disturbances. At the age of 63, you have enough experience to understand the situation and act accordingly. Life makes you wise as age progress. You should be able to understand what is anxiety. Fear is objective. We fear when we perceive a fear inducing object, like snake or tiger. On that circumstance we have faster heart beats, sweat, goose bumps, breathing difficulty or gasping etc. Once the situation is over, we come back to normalcy soon. Anxiety is subjective. We become apprehensive about anxiety creating subject even though it is not actually available. We fear a future event which may be anxiety creating. So it is clear that anxiety is creation of our mind out of fear of something might happen in the future. That is where it becomes easy to treat anxiety. Awareness is the key. Once we understand that the anxiety is subjective, we understand it is not real. We become aware that it is the mischief done by our mind itself. To treat anxiety is easy. We all know that future is unpredictable. We all know anything might happen even next second and we do not have any control over those happenings. That is where the psychotherapy treatment starts. Now I should know what are those anxiety creating subjects you are anxious about? I need your help. Write down all those events one by one. Take some time to do that. Once you have a descriptive list, post it as a follow up question here. I shall prescribe some psychotherapy technique which should help you overcome anxiety disorder within one or two months. Collect as many information possible and post those here. Take your own time and don't hurry up. Take your own time. The secret of success of psychotherapy lies on every minute details. I am sure that your problem shall be cured. Take heart. Good luck. Dr. K V Anand PhD
