Question: My Mom is 97 yrs. old, no dementia and in good health, except she has recently become anemic. I'm looking for an article that explains the benefits of B12 shots for older people. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Cause of anemia should be searched.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

She has anemia. It can be due to iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency or some other causes like chronic disease.

So cause of anemia should be searched first. Because if there is vitamin B12 deficiency then but B12 shots can be definitely helpful. But if there is no deficiency then it has no role.

So go for peripheral smear examination and anemia profile. Then take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic.

I have a low WBC. I have B12 anemia and iron deficiency anemia 10 years post gastric bypass. I also have scattered petechiae on my upper body, joint aches and pains and fatigue. I take B12 injections now every 2 weeks and had an iron infusion 6 weeks ago. I still don t feel well. Any thoughts?

I am a 24 year old female and do horseback riding. I ve been having some issues with cracking sounds coming from my knees - and sometimes pain when it occurs - whenever I climb up stairs. I m also unable to keep my knees bent only slightly (standing upright but knees bent) for a long period of time, before pain sets in. I ve been riding since 2007 and have never had this problem before, it only became apparent recently. Could it be because of an iron deficiency? I had to take iron supplements a few years ago for a period of 3 months and picked up some more this morning because a few of the other symptoms I m experiencing also seem to point to iron deficiency. Kind regards

Hi, mday I answer you ouhealrth queries right now ? Please type your query here...my baby had a blood smear with a few acanthocytes. He was born at 36 weeks and small but has gained weight very well and is now 75th percentile. He is otherwise well but has mild persistant jaundice. His platelet count is 725 which is high. He is also being treated for iron and folate deficiency. Donthe acanthocytes always indicate some kind of disease or could it be related to his iron deficiency?
