Suggest Treatment For Acute Prostatitis

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2017
Question: Should I abandon my meds and seek new treatment and or second opinion? Recently diagnosed with prostatitis and taking ciprofloxacn 500mg for 3 weeks now. At best, pain is getting worse. I sleep fine and have no issues urinating, but the pain in the tip of my penis begins almost as soon as I awake and start walking. the slightest rubbing on any material results in awful pain. The pain in my anus has also gotten much worse and prolonged throughout the day. I am just very frustrated and concerned that its getting worse. This is a new issue to me and in general am in very good health

I realize this is very similar to my question of just a week ago. If I just need to be incorporating patience at this time, I can do that. Maybe pain has to get worse before it gets better

Brief answer....you do require proper investigations and a date with urologist
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Although your symptoms are typically suggestive of acute prostatitis but since you are not getting relief with this treatment,it means either you need to be given different antibiotic ( according to the urine culture ) or there could be some other reasons.
You require....
A urine culture and urine specimen testing PRE and POST prostatic massage to exactly know the microbe and proper antibiotic required.
Other reasons which can cause similar problems ....
Urinary tract stone
Prostatic abscess
And sometimes even bladder cancer etc.
For these you may need ultrasound abdomen along with probable CT abdomen and may be even cystoscopy
Best would be to consult a urologist and get managed properly.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Urologist seen, that is where I got diagnosis from. Ultra sound supposedly good, along with urine. this is why I am so frustrated. Don't want bad news, but would hope to get more decisive diag and better progress with treatment. Is there a possibility this could go away on its own? Would seeing a second urologist be beneficial?

If diagnosis is correct, is it 100% treatable with antibiotics or may another route be in order?

Hello,
A very important step in treating infection of prostate is to get the urine culture done, which ,I think was not done. Urine culture helps in determining the bacteria as well as the proper antibiotic needed for its eradication.
Yes this condition is 100% treatable if the diagnosis is correct.
You should definitely go for some alternate opinion.
Thanks

Can prostatitis be correct but other things going on at the same time? Bladder is also very painful been having spasms lately. I do have a history of kidney stones, but I know what they feel like and none of this feels like that, is the pain in the same area.

Hello,
Yes it is possible for a person to have two simultaneous problems. What you need is a thorough investigation. It needs to be investigated that why a proper antibiotic course hasn't made you all right. Is it just some tough infection or may be some associated problem also?
A proper trratment can be instituted once the exact cause is identified.
Thanks
