Question: Yes, my name is XXXXX XXXXXXX and I am a long time supporter of Wed MD, my question or problem is this.
2 weeks ago I had a scan of my head area for potential skin cancer places, which resulted in a biopsy taken of a larger red spot on my upper forehead, and that come back as an " actinoc kerotosis", the my dermatologist doctor when on to spray 12 other suspect future skin cancer places around my forehead, head and neck, she sprayed those places and they are all healing nicely. I also had the MD Doctor look at what I thought was a lip chapped place on the middle of my lower lip. She examined the place, by feeling underneath it and there is no open skin wound, but a stubbon, small place which looks like either a chapped lip or a cold sore of some sort. Its not Herpes, I am 76 years old now.
I will see the dermatology Doc again in December, but I am thinking about having my dentist to look at the place and tell me what she thinks might be be to treat this small place. My dermotologist Doc suggested I just keep on using carmex lip lub stick on the spot. What do you think I should do?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of actinic cheilitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am Dr. Kakkar (dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

I would keep a possibility of actinic cheilitis or actinic keratosis of lips. It is similar to what we see as actinic keratosis on sun exposed skin.
I would suggest you to protect it from sun exposure and use a lip balm with SPF. Well, if that is the case it may be treated with either laser dessication, photodynamic therapy, topical 5-fluorouracil or topical imiquimod.

Regards
