Question: For a 15 days now, my mother has been showing abnormal behaviour such as talking about someone remotely connected with us, narrating story of telephonic conversation with someone, who never made call to her, narrating about event, which never occured and so on. Since last week, this tendency has increased and she has been abusing someone without a break. It is only now that we are thinking of some medical problem. What do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Get An MRI brain+metabolic screen.Consult both Neurologist and Psychiatrist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Ma'am.

I understand your query and concerns.

This is certainly abnormal cognitive behaviour.

This could be termed as mixed delusions and hallucinations.

Its extremely important that an MRI scan of the brain is performed.

This should be followed by complete metabolic screen via a blood test.

Its important to consult both Neurologist and Psychiatrist one followed by the other.

Many such complaints can be treated with institution of drugs like SSRI's(selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ex Escitalopram), Olanzapine and BZD's(Benzodiazepines ex Clonazepam).

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.
