Posted on Wed, 1 Feb 2017
Question: my husband has seen doctor who said his stomach pain is from stomach acid. He still has pain even though he takes one pill a day of pantoprazole 40mg. He had an MRI which did not show anything abnormal to his internal organs. We are making sure we are not eating or drinking acidic foods. But pain is still there. On scale of 1-10 it is a 5. Can u tell us what might help?

Brief Answer:
Gastritis related pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern for your husband's abdominal pain.
Also I read your previous question on same issue and I have different opinion for this.
1) Occasional burning type of pain in upper abdomen or left side indicate gastritis. It is condition in which inner layer of stomach become inflamed. Taking pain killers , psychiatric medications are risk factor for this.
2) CT scan or MRI will be normal in case of gastritis as there will be no structural changes in stomach or intestine due to this but only inner layer is affected.
3) He must continue Pantoprazole tablet and must be taken in empty stomach. He can take antacid syrup for quick relief from this pain apart of Pantoprazole medication.
4) He should be evaluated by gastroenterologist and if require should undergo upper GI endoscopy examination.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, I would be happy to help you.
Have a good day!
