Suggest Treatment For A Painful Bump On Buttocks

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: My son called me this morning complaining about a pain at the top of his butt. He said it started to bother him on Saturday and has gotten worse. He feels a little bump in that area and I am concerned. I live on Long Island but he moved to Massachusetts back in September and we haven't set him up with a Doctor yet. I will be calling 3 or 4 tomorrow to see if I can get him an appointment but I would like to know if you have any advice for me. My name is XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
oral anti inflammatory med, warm compress, mag sulphate cream

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it may be a small abscess in formation. This is a localized collection of pus and they commonly form in this area.

They would normally start off firm/hard then soften.

The use of a warm compress would help with the pain and also help to soften quicker. Can be applied two to three times daily for 10 to 20 minutes

In addition he can also try magnesium sulphate cream, this is also used to encourage break down and drainage

The use of oral anti inflammatory pain medication would help to relieve his discomfort eg naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen

He should see his doctor as you mentioned, for assessment

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
