Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Trouble in sleeping can be because of so many reasons. common causes are mostly psychological origin.

You said that you have problem in getting deep sleep? what do you mean by that? do you get enough sleep but you do not feel refreshing in the morning? do you have taken any medications till date?

Insomnia alone can be present without any psychiatric co-morbidity. I dont know whether you are suffering from any psychiatric illness? commonly associated with insomnia are depression and anxiety.

Other important thing is substance use at night. whether you smoke after 7 pm in evening? chew tobacco at night? drink any activating liquid at night [tea, coffee]?

These questions came to my mind first, before I can suggest anything.

I am waiting for your answers..

I do not have experience with ayurvedic medicines. they are not scientifically tested. So I usually do not recommend that.

I feel that you should give the answers to questions. waiting for your reply.

Brief Answer:
Alternative medication for insomnia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.

It is good to know that you don't drink or smoke.

You are taking restyl 0.5 mg; even after taking it if you don't get enough sleep then you should consult your prescribing doctor again and ask for change in the medication.

Restyl is a brand name of alprazolam, which is a short acting benzodiazepine, a habit forming drug if used chronically, because of its short duration of action.

There are other drugs specially indicated for insomnia. In my opinion, consult a psychiatrist if you haven't yet; tell your problems related to sleep. Follow his advice. The drugs like Zolpidem, zopiclone etc. will be more suitable to you. Discuss about them with your doctor.

Learn the basic facts about the sleep hygiene [easily available on the net] and try to follow that. If you have any anxiety or stress, try to control it by professional help.
