Suggest Remedy For Numbness In Tongue After Failed Root Canal Therapy
Question: Hi-
After having a failed root canal from a dentist, my endodontist injected just tooth 5 to be sure that my pain was coming from my tooth. He was planning on retreating it. I had other symptoms that made him want to be sure. Now, almost a week later, my lip, part of my nose, tongue, and some of my teeth are still numb on that side. While the pain subsided for a while,(it comes in waves, and throbs, and I feel my pulse in my tooth), I haven't been able to figure out why the numbness is lasting so long. I still have terrible ringing in my ears, which turned out to be one of my symptoms of needing a root canal, so that leads me to believe that there is still something to be retreated. We are putting off the retreating procedure for now, but I'm not sure what to do. Do you have any ideas? I was in horrible pain for months until the test injection, but I'm not enjoying this lack of feeling either! Thanks for your help!

As per your query and taking in consideration the details you have provided it looks like the tooth that was injected has caused nerve injury as nerve might have got pricked with the injection needle leading to numbness in the areas supplied by the nerve..
The waves or bouts of pain that comes and goes seems to be due to nerve injury and it is due to numbness that you are feeling that the pain has subsided but in real I am not sure about it and there is a possibility that as and when the sensation recover you might get pain again..
As far as ringing in ears or Tinnitus is concerned it may or may not be related to tooth infection or pain and you should consult an Otolaryngologist and get an Otoscopic examination done for confirming the cause and treatment can be planned accordingly..
For numbness you can start taking Vitamin B complex, do warm compresses over the numb area and massage the muscles with finger tips in gentle and round motion..
If it does not seems to improve in one month consult a Neurologist and get evaluated..
The teeth that are decayed or getting resorbed, l would like you to send me scans of the x rays of the teeth so that I can guide you towards proceeding for treatment after evaluating the x rays..
