Suggest Remedy For Hypersensitivity Of Skin After Recovering From Cold

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Feb 2017
Question: Hi:
I am a 67 year old white male in excellent health. I recently recovered from a rare (for me) but severe 2 1/2 week cold, for which I took 12 Hour antihistamines and 12 Hour cough medicines. Upon recovery, my nervous system for sensations on my skin below my neck changed. The usual sensations for my skin for touch and feel, have all changed. I now have new and different sensations on my skin everywhere for touch and hot and cold. The new sensations are similar to feeling a thin, cold wave of water going over my skin, and are not what I am used to or have experienced my entire life. I now have completed 7 days since the cold subsided, and the new nerve sensations have not subsided or returned to their original patterns of sensations.
What could the explanation be? What kind of Doctor or Specialist should I look for in a referral?

Brief Answer:
Consult family physician

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for the query under health care magic.
I have read it &understood your concern.
The impaired skin sensation you have after a severe & prolonged (15 days) attack of cold could be due to-
-An impaired thinking as a side effect of anti allergic medicines you had (in a pill form &probably also in cough syrup) for a long span of 15 days....to which you are not used to.... the effect would go naturally over the time.. as the effect of drug weans off.
-It can be Vitamin B complex(specially B12) defeciency following the illness.
- Following a jerk to vertebral column..due to a strong sneezing or coughing, which has lead to spondylosis .. causing pressure on the supplying nerve to the affected area.
*In this context I would suggest consultation of your family physician for physical assessment of the skin sensations followed by needful investigation like x ray of vertebral column . After the diagnosis he would start specific treatment with B complex supplements or refer you to orthopedic surgeon for specific management.
I hope that answers your query.Any follow up query you have.. I would be happy to help.
