Posted on Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Question: Hi, I had crystalens surgery 10 months ago. Since then, a piggy back & then removed, a contact lens & removed the next day, & now he says the lens in left eye has moved out of place. My vison is cloudy in both eyes. He wants to take out the crystalens & put a regular lens in Monday. Don't know what to do. Thinking of getting a second opinion. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Replacement of lens is requured as it is displaced

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam

Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you you have underwent crystal lens surgery and following which you had piggy back lenses, contact lenses, displacement of intraocukar lens.

Crystal lenses are the accommodative intraocular lenses and are used to provide good distance and near vision ad the traditional intraocular lenses provide only good distance vision and spectacles are required for near vision.
It is very unfortunate that you had multiple problems.
Now since the vision is cloudy and the intraocular lens is displaced it requires either repositioning of the lens or replacement by another intraocular lens.
Hence your doctor is right in advicing replacement of the intraocular lens.

If possible send me more details regarding surgery like
Any problem during surgery or any per existing problem before surgery
Present vision in both the eyes
Any reports if available

If you can provide me the above mentioned details I will be able to answer more accurately.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards

You mentioned repositioning the lens. Is that an option? He had quite a problem getting the piggy back lens out. Also I had laser after crystal lens surgery. That was the first thing before everything else. Appreciate you input. Very nervous about something else going wrong. Ask what my vision was & was never told. Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Decision depends on the status of vision.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

I reviewed your history.
The decision to operate or not depends mainly on the status of vision.
If the vision is fine the lens can be left alone and it dies not requires any manipulation.
If the vision is less because of edema of the cornea or because of inflammation induced by surgery, the treatment for these is required.

Hence the decision has to be taken depending on the vision and the associated factors like corneal edema or inflammation induced by surgery.
Hence you need to consult your doctor and discuss all these factors before going for surgery. The options are either leave the lens without any manipulation or to dial it into proper place or to replace the lens by a new one.
If it is possible you can always go for second opinion with one more ophthalmologist and you need to discuss these factors before deciding on.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
