Suggest Remedy For UTI In An Elderly Person

Question: when, like my amazing dad, who was in WWII in the RAF and has worked his whole life through to way beyond retirement age, we finally are in need of that supposed "care". Despite PAYING every step of the way for over 70 years, he had to endure the most appalling 'care' ('lack of care' describes it more accurately)in hospital recently and was given a Conveen despite being A) not incontinent, B) of sound mind - an Oxford graduate and an EXTREMELY sharp mind - actually - in many areas, therefore fully able to hold a bottle which would have meant far lower risk of infection, surely? (considering 'C'; & C) admitted to hospital care for a UTI!!! They took his fluids (canula drip) AWAY - yes AWAY, after the first 2 days, despite having established that he was seriously dehydrated, on Metformin for his diabetes, and already had kidney disease stage 3. Please can you confirm that they should NOT have taken away the kidney flushing drip and that a Conveen was a seriously BAD idea. He then had to be fitted with a catheter, which I can only assume was because the UTI came (as a result of the Conveen being on for days) and somehow created such a blockage that the only way his bladder would empty (nothing in Conveen bag and abdomen distended like a large beach ball - Dad complaining of pain) was by resorting to a catheter, which of course will only make matters worse with the UTI. I appreciate your help, but suspect you cannot reply unless I pay yet more money.

Brief Answer:
Give him antibiotics as per report to cure him earlier...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXXX,

Thank you for asking query.

I am Dr Arun Tank, infectious disease specialist answering your concern.

It seems that your father is seriously ill.

In case where patient is seriously ill and won't be able to pass urine, it is necessary to catheterize the patient.

The cathetere tip is submitted for culture and sensitivity so that possible organism and its sensitivity to the drugs can be known. It is a routine procedure

Once the report is known you can give him antibiotics, it will help him cure earlier.

You can ask me for further clarification here.

Thank you.

Dr Arun Tank.
