Suggest Remedies For Severe Knee Pain In An Arthritis Patient

Question: Dr Rynee, I am 56 year old female, slightly overweight with arthritis already in my hands and shoulder (not in constant pain but flares up from time to time) In the last month I have experienced what I thought was a hamstring pull behind my left knee but now it seems the pain moves info my left knee and I even experience a cramping (charley horse) feeling in my left calf. It doesn't hurt when at rest but when I first stand up and walk after prolonged sitting at desk it hurts but does feel better as i start to walk. Should I be concerned? Thank you.

One more thing Doctor......I have no swelling, no heat radiating from any portion of my leg, no fever and no tenderness to the touch. I find at night when sleeping if I don't bend my leg (which I always have on that side), it's actually less painful getting out of bed in the morning. I have been battling plantar fascitis on my right foot but that leg is fine. I'm just a mess and need a vacation I think....thanks again for any advice you can provide!

Brief Answer:
This is due to knee arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think your knee arthritis is progressing and this is causing knee pain. Because of this your body is putting more strain on your calf and thigh muscles leading to such symptoms. I have following suggestions for you.
1.Get X rays of your knee in standing position.
2.Avoid sitting cross leg or knee bending. You can use hot water fomentation and Knee cap for walking.
3.Take Etoricoxib 90 mg rather then Advil. Also volition ointment can be applied after hot water fomentation.
4.Steorid injection can be given in knee joint in case pain is not controlled with medications.
i hope these steps will be helpful for you.Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
thanks
