Question: Have had Colon cancer twice in 17 years. The last one 5 years ago. Two bowel Resections, chemo twice, radiation first. Last colonoscopy in February and all clear. Cea in May was 0.8. Have been on lomotil for several months. Had a rough bout with diarrhea last week and took Imodium with this. This caused constipation. Took laxative and received relief. Since then have only had small bowel movements. They are soft and normal color. Have also added 2000 iu vitamin d3 to diet. Is there something else I should be doing to get things back to normal.

Forgot about the lack of urge for bowel movements. Will try a few times a day but only pass small amount of stool.

Detailed Answer:
hi.
firstly apologize on behalf of HCM team for being late in responding to your query.
i have read your query thoroughly and understand your concern.
i am pleased and impressed to know that your physically and mentally very strong to fight the cancer twice.

Constipation presentation varies from person-to-person. Stools may be too hard or too small, difficult to pass, or infrequent (less than three times per week). Some people with constipation may feel a sense that the bowels are not empty, sensation of incomplete evacuation ( that maybe in your case).

Meanwhile, diet modification is advised as follow:

- discontinue any medication being used for constipation
- thrice daily , take two tea spoon (or one big spoon) ispagula husk with 200 to 300 mL water until symptoms get better
- increase warm water intake as much as possible
- eat "small" meals (rich in fiber)
- avoid rice and ingest bread/ soup
- eat plentiful "fresh oranges" and "pear "
- avoid COLD milk and and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza) altogether
- mix few drops of "lemon juice" in warm water. Drink on empty stomach, early in the morning, to aid in bowel movement
- avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks
- avoid carbonated drinks
- take 2-3 spoon edible virgin olive oil in the morning

OTC Oral Rehydrated Solution maybe used for few days to compensate any loss of electrolytes( in your case as you suffered from diarrhea last week).

Any further questions are welcomed.
Hope to answer your concern.

Wish you good and sound health.

Thank you for your help. I am starting to have more normal movements. Just a little straining to get started. Is it normal to feel like there is some soreness from the abdomin? I feel like my intestines are a little sore. Also would like to know if vitamin d3 and magnesium are to be taken together.

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for getting back to me.

you maybe feeling uncomfortable ( sore intestine) most likely due to localized inflammation ( secondary to variation in bowel habits within a matter of says). however, these symptoms would subside with passage of time provided proper diet is followed.

add plain yogurt to meals. and ingest small meals.
fresh juices ( fresh fruit blend) intake is recommended.

and yes in my sound knowledge, vitD3 and magnesium maybe taken together.

its my pleasure to be of help.
further queries are welcomed.

if no further queries, kindly close dialogue box and rate the answer.

thank you.
wish you good and sound health.
