Posted on Wed, 25 Oct 2017
Question: The dental hygienist pushed an xray deep into my mouth yesterday causing me to gag. Then my dentist said he detected a bruise on my uvula and suspects cancer. Could the xray have caused the bruise?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it can be due to X-ray

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing in.

If the X-ray film was inserted deeply then it might cause a bruise. If it doesn't heal within a week then it might be something else. Moreover, cancer looks light a growth, not like a bruise. I'd suggest consulting an oral surgeon if it still persists after a week.

Hope I answered your query, feel free to ask further

Thank you very much. My dentist is having me see an oral surgeon on Tuesday. What else could have caused the bruise besides the x-ray film?
