Question: I'm in need of help with my chronic back pain that's been goin on for about 6ys and no one know what to do cause the MRI comes back neg each time...I have tried that Vicodin and can't take it cause it hurts my stomach.. In the morning I strecth and when I arrive at work I'm ok.. But when I get home I have 4 kids we love sports and always outside playing.. After dinner my back is in show much pain and I can't even move, even worse the disappointment on thier face makes me tear up everytime!!!i just want to be able to do fun things with the kids and no dr see anything wrong so they say take ibuprofen which does absolutely nothing.. Is there anything like a Vicodin that won't kill my stomach so when I'm really bad I can take it and get to see the smiles on my kids face thanks

My back pain is at night time usually and for the past week I haven't slept more than 2 hrs!! Most the time I'm curled up in a ball just to deal with it... I went to the ER and nothing on the X-rays like usual it's so frustrating that no one seems to know and I'm spending all this money goin to diff Dr who say. Strect get a new mattress less stress which in all case I do em all the time.. Guess what not working.. All I want is the pain to go away at night.. Nothing works Advil pm or any other pm stuff.. So they tried Vicodin which I can't take cause apparently the tynole rips my stomach apart.. The next was tramadol and I'll tell u what they was a waste also.. I'm tired of goin to dr appt like ever other week which cause my insurance is horrible I pay 150 out of pocket and get the same results everytime... I just need something that will relieve the pain so maybe just maybe I can sleep!!!

Brief Answer:
Take medicine and do exercise as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your detailed query and understand your concern.
In some cases of low back pain, no cause can be found out, yet the pain persists. Such cases require to be treated with combination therapy i.e medicine and physiotherapy with few restrictions. In cases which do not respond with medicine and no obvious cause can be found out, I generally advise the following and they seem to work in most patients-

Avoiding sudden forward bending and heavy weight lifting.
Physiotherapy starting with basic spinal isometric exercises, gradually adding up spinal flexion and rotation exercises after being shown by trained personnel.
TENS therapy and in some cases of low back pain, IFT therapy is very useful.
However, both of the above should be done under supervision of physiotherapist.
Dry heat compression gives some pain relief.
Painkillers like aceclofenac, etoricoxib or etodolac with or without muscle relaxant combination should be useful. Later, the treatment might be shifted to local application of diclofenac gel etc. Alongwith, antacids should be taken.
As the pain increases at night in your case, you can use mild sedatives like alprazolam or lorazepam after dinner. Or for induction of sleep, zolpidem can be used. This will give you sound sleep.

You can consult the above with your treating doctor and get them prescribed.

Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
