Brief Answer:
Continue drugs as prescribed and provide more details
Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxx,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Treatment in epilepsy and duration and type of drug depends upon diagnosis.
What was your Mri and eeg reports?
The present drug regime contains three antiepileptics and dosage are lowest according to age.
The increase in dose and duration depends upon seizure control.
The usual protocol is to taper and stop drug after asymptomatic period of atleast 2-3 years.
You can provide more details.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Do get back to me for further queries.

Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for the details provided. I have few more questions.
MRI was taken 7 years back and the report was normal. EEG was taken 2 days back and the impression is 'Normal Awake Record'. Can you please let me know what does this mean?
I don't have High B.P. and haven't done any diabetes checkup. Do you suggest for diabetes checkup?
Also, will the medicines provided by the doctor cause any side effects? Are these medicines adivisable to be used in long run? Doctor advised me to take tablets in the morning and evening. I sometimes feel drowsy. Is any drug causing this drowsiness?
Please advice.
Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Dose of drugs can be increased
Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
In case your MRI and EEG came normal , the diagnosis is idiopathic generalised epilepsy.
The person with such disease has a high likelihood of getting seizures due to provocative factors like decreased sleep, night awakening, missed drugs, alcohol.
For treatment you need to continue drugs regularly until you are completely asymptomatic for 3 years to get the drug tapered and stopped.
The doses of drugs are lower in your case if your weight is >50 kg.
The valid should be increased to 500 mg twice.
Other anti epileptics like topaz and lobazam can also be increased if needed.
All drugs have one or the other side effect.
CNS side effects like drowsiness, memory problems, concentration difficulty is common to most drugs.
Valrid has common side effect of weight gain and less common polycystic ovarian disease.
Topaz has risk of renal side effect and glaucoma.
Lobazam has sedation as side effect.
Another drug called levetiracetam with minimal side effects can be tried if not considered previously and seizures are not controlled.
You should be compliant to drugs and life style modifications. Be in regular follow up of a neurologist.

Brief Answer:
Get sugar tested, take regular drugs
Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
You can get routine blood sugar check up for diabetes.
In diabetes, control is necessary as high sugar levels may precipitate seizures.
For prevention of seizure you need to follow a modified lifestyle with sleeping at around 10 pm and minimum of 8 hours sleep.
Avoid night awakening. Regular and timely drugs. No alcohol. Discuss with your doctor regarding interactions of medicine if you take any other medicines for any illness.
Hope you recover soon.
